Hello, Ruby subscribers, and thank you for being here with us as the holiday season ramps up, and the year 2024 winds down. Before we know it, the holidays will arrive, but before they do, there’s lots and lots of work to be done here. I’m sure many of you can relate, but if you don’t have a hustling bustling marathon of holidays coming up, all the better! You can enjoy this month’s subscription coffees in peace! Whether you’re drinking these coffees from the comfort of your home, or on the go, I hope you find a moment to enjoy them. Let’s kick it off with a look at November’s Rich and Sweet subscription.
Rich and Sweet subscribers will be receiving El Mango, a Costa Rican coffee from the farm Cerro la Cruz. If you’ve been drinking Ruby coffee for a while, you may recognize the name Cerro la Cruz, as it’s been a mainstay of the Ruby menu since 2016 when Jared first visited and purchased coffee from the Bararantes family. In 2023, team members Ashley and Katy got to visit them again, and witnessed firsthand the improvements they have made and the hard work they have done. All their hard work is evident in the taste of their coffees, and El Mango is no exception, with notes like citrus, praline, and baking spice consistently showing up in our recent cuppings. We hope you enjoy this lot, and keep an eye out for other Cerro la Cruz lots that Ruby will be offering in the coming months.
Roaster’s Choice subscribers will be receiving El Mango as well, plus a new-to-Ruby offering, Guatemala Genaro. Genaro Juarez’s coffee is a great example of a high-quality, regionally-award-winning, and organically-produced coffee that does not yet have organic certification within the United States. There are many coffees on Ruby’s menu that are produced organically, but for a variety of reasons are not, and may never be, organically certified within the United States. Ruby hopes to offer Genaro’s coffee under an organic label in the future, as he is in the process of obtaining the United States’ organic certification. In the meantime, Ruby is proud to offer this coffee, with its big body, thick stewed fruit notes, and a solid dark chocolate backbone. We are grateful we get to share it with you before it leaves our menu!
Bright & Lively subscribers will receive Ethiopia Halo Hartume, a sweet, floral coffee with subtly tropical notes from Gedeb, Gedeo. The region of Gedeo previously had notoriety for housing the famous coffee growing district of Yirgacheffe, but more recently, additional areas of Gedeo have been gaining attention, including the Gedeb region. Halo Hartume is the name of the wet mill where this coffee comes from, which was founded by Haile Figa in 2018. Farmers from the area come to the mill to sell their coffee, still in cherry, which is then processed as a community lot. We are excited to bring this coffee back to the menu, in all its fullcaf glory, after having it on the menu as a decaf option in fall of 2022.
As always, thanks for reading, happy brewing, and I hope these coffees keep you fueled up this month!
